Working from home isn't the easiest thing I've ever done.
Being at home and also "working" requires determination, planning and perseverance. Especially when you don't have a home office space, but rather a newly refurbished welcoming kitchen as a surrogate.
However, being at home presents a series of challenges.
Children are at home too. "Mum, can I show you something?" "Mum, where is ...*" *insert any item you can think of that doesn't belong to you... But the worst is a child being silent, which every mum knows is suspicious to say the least... children are never silent unless they're doing something you shouldn't know about or something you wouldn't allow them to do!
But being at home is not something one can do very often outside of a pandemic and that means that all sorts of household chores now resurface. Cooking, cleaning, gardening, the big garage clear-out, etc. Some more enjoyable than others...
And if your mind is into planning as mine sometimes annoyingly excels at, you then start planning various home improvement projects. I mean... designing a full 3D model of your back garden transformation project with the correct measurements of every corner and a cost estimate... And the project wouldn't be complete without extensive research into which plant would be perfect for which area and without developing a sun map of your garden. Yes! That is a thing! Who does that?! Me. The answer is: me.
Maintaining focus to achieve some level of productivity is hard. Especially if your expectations of yourself are high to start with. You're at home. You should be very productive, right?! That requires a higher level of discipline with your time. Which can be hard to achieve when part of your mind wants to keep up to date with the pandemic developments at home and with friends and family abroad, part wants to enjoy being a much more physically present mum than ever, part wants to continue to be positive, a force for improvement in the small or big world, even if remotely.
Just know this: it's good enough. You're good enough.
If you can organise better, do it, but don't beat yourself up about it.
And enjoy the positives.
